All cottages have central heating; Chauffeur’s and Gardener’s cottages also have wood burning stoves. There is a laundry room and all linen and towels are supplied. Martinhoe Cleave Cottages are located in the Heddon Valley, the “jewel” of Exmoor National Park, renowned for its unspoilt natural beauty. Walk out of your door into this beautiful valley, surrounded by ancient woodland, heather-covered moorland and spectacular views of the coastline, sea and moor. Experience one of Britain’s wild places from your doorstep. Witness the majesty of the stars at night in a designated international dark sky reserve.
The area has many beautiful walks. The South West Coast Path, with its breath-taking scenery, is a short stroll from the cottages. Paths follow alongside the Heddon River and take you to the rugged cove of Heddons Mouth. There are some challenging routes and climbs for cyclists. Award-winning golden sandy beaches, favoured by surfers and boarders, are within easy reach at Woolacombe and Croyde.
The famous Hunters Inn and National Trust shop are located in the valley. The pretty coastal town of Lynton and Lynmouth, with its shops, galleries, cinema, restaurants and famous cliff railway, can be reached via the coastal path, or is a 10 minute drive. Combe Martin is also nearby, while the larger towns of Ilfracombe and Barnstaple are within a 40 minute drive. Other places of interest include Porlock to the east and Clovelly to the west.

We had a great holiday, lovely countryside, great walks. The cottage is in a perfect location. Very peaceful. Thanks.
A lovely comfortable cottage in a great location. A good few days. We will be back for sure.
An amazing cottage in superb surroundings. Everything is fabulous – the countryside, the beach and the cottage. It is well thought out and equipped. We have recharged our batteries for work next week! Many thanks and good luck in your new venture.
A fantastic cottage in a beautiful, peaceful valley with a week of perfect weather. We could not have asked for more! Piran enjoyed lots of nice dog walks along the valley to the beach and we walked a fair length of the the South West Coat Path. One of the best holiday cottages we have ever stayed in. Thank you!
Thank you James and Alan for letting us stay in your haven ‘far from the madding crowd’. Just what we needed. The cottage was everything and more , what a beautiful location. We enjoyed listening to the barn/tawny owls every evening. We loved the Heddons Mouth walk. Fantastic views
Beautiful and peaceful, just the way we like it. The cottage was well equipped and comfy. To top it all the weather was fantastic, thanks!
Have been coming here since 1980 and this is still the best place to be and still feels like home. Hope to see you again soon!
We only booked 2 weeks before coming, after our daughter stayed and highly recommended it, so it was no surprise that the cottage was so comfortable and well equipped. A walker’s and dog paradise. We loved the area and will come again as still lots more to see and do.
***** star cottage. Very clean, all amenities needed for your stay. Very quiet and plenty of stars at night. Lovely view of the coast. Great welcome from James and Alan. If you like walking, there is a great walk from the cottage to Lynton & Lynmouth. Lovely stop off for tea and scone at Lee Abbey tea room. Would definitely come again. Lovely place.
Another wonderful week in this beautiful part of the world. We have explored slightly further afield this time – amazing views from Dunkery Hill; golden sands at Woolacombe. We’re already planning our next visit!
